Jaguar I-Pace owners hit the company with a lawsuit, again

A class-action lawsuit has been filed against Jaguar Land Rover over alleged EV battery faults and overall negligence in dealing with customer complaints.

The all-electric SUV known as the I-Pace has had its share of battery troubles for a few years now. At first, the British automaker blamed its vendor, LG Energy Solution, for supplying faulty units. The vendor even paid out a compensation to JLR, which then proceeded to replace all the batteries in all seemingly affected cars. However, it now looks increasingly like the issue has never gone anywhere.

One of the claimants reported her replacement battery having the same issues as her original one. According to her, her I-Pace suddenly stopped in the middle of a parking lot, blocking multiple other cars in the process, and refused to move the spot. Contacting Jaguar accomplished nothing, so she decided to take the matter to the court.

Another claimant is reporting ‘constant issues with the electrics’, saying his SUV would unexpectedly shut down in the middle of the road. He brought it in for repairs and had to wait for longer than a month to get it back.

Yet another owner lost his car completely in a fire that saw it burn down to cinders. The automaker did agree to tow away the car carcass, but neglected to sweep up whatever remains were still scattered on the asphalt, leaving the owner to the humiliation of doing so.

The fourth participant joined the lawsuit because, in his own words, his car put him in mortal danger. Once, as he was driving downhill, an urgent message popped up on the dash asking him to stop immediately. He had tried to do so only to discover that the neither the steering wheel nor the brakes were working. He ended up sliding down the hill with no opportunity to control his car; luckily, there was no oncoming traffic in his way, and the car eventually came to a halt.

Jaguar Land Rover has yet to comment on any of these allegations.
