Jaguar recalls all early I-Pace SUVs over fire risks

Jaguar and the NHTSA have issued an advisory for I-Pace EV owners whose cars were made in the second half of 2018. The affected units come with faulty batteries prone to overheating.

This concerns all I-Pace units produced by Magna Steyr from June through October 2018 with an LG Energy Solution battery pack on board. Under certain conditions, the pack can short-circuit and cause a fire.

All affected vehicles are recalled for free maintenance. Until then, the owners are advised to keep them outdoors and as far as possible from buildings and other vehicles. Aside from that, it is recommended to keep the charging level below 75% at all times to minimize the risks.

Jaguar’s firstborn EV has proven a market failure so far. Despite claiming multiple Car of the Year awards, it has found barely more than 60,000 buyers to this day. The company stays resolute in its intention to go all-electric within the next few years, however. The next all-new EV is scheduled for release in 2025.
