Someone had actually converted a 1998 Jaguar XJ8 into a ute, and the result is looking for buyers in the USA willing to spare $29,000. The bidding hasn’t exceeded $14,200 yet.
Before you scream 'Heresy', though, consider the circumstances that brought this particular build to life. According to the seller, a tree fell on the sedan and destroyed the rear half of the roof along with the trunk. Rather than giving it up for the write-off it was, the owner decided to transform it into something viable.
Thus, a partition with a glass section and a small window appeared behind the c-pillar, and custom parts were fabricated for the rest of the body to preserve its integrity. All new parts were sprayed in British Racing Green as befits a Jaguar vehicle.
The listing points out that the light two-door pickup is functional and has a cabin trimmed with light leather and wood veneers. The custom truck bed and tailgate are also in good order.
Power still originates from a stock 4.0-liter V8 rated at 290 PS (286 hp / 213 kW), which is sent to the rear wheels by means of a five-speed automatic transmission. The mileage is rather high at 94,000 miles (around 151,000 km), and we suspect this is why the going has been slow at the auction so far.
