Jeep confirms going all-electric, V8s are the first to go

Jeep CEO Christian Meunier made a statement that the brand would eventually abandon internal combustion engines altogether, starting with diesel and petrol V8 units that would vanish from worldwide markets within several years.

The increasingly harsh environment protection laws have forced Jeep to electrify its offer at least partially, so new four- and six-cylinder powertrains assisted by electric motors will be coming to phase out eight-pots across the range. The transition will not be abrupt, however: the current decade will see a very gradual shift towards electrification, and some markets may be prioritized over the others.

Meunier also stressed that the company would endeavor to keep the V8-powered models alive for as long as they remain viable.
