This 880-HP Jeep Cherokee enjoys making its ‘feeble old SUV’ impression

It is not often that you encounter a classical Jeep Cherokee on a racing circuit, but this specific example surprised the audience with its ample racing chops at the Holly Mopar Fest 2020. Let’s see what’s so special about the build.

Tuners have managed to keep the exterior of the sleeper car mostly intact while stuffing it full of power. The revived Cherokee runs on a Chevrolet C10 frame and employs a Dodge Challenger V8. The mill has 5.7 liters of displacement and benefits from a larger-than-stock turbocharger. The owner had originally been satisfied with 720 hp (536 kW) and 1,180 Nm (840 pound-feet) of torque, but still decided in favor of another, bugger turbo later on. He never performed any dyno measurements, but the car appears to have around 880 hp (656 kW) at the wheels, if not more.

Rounding off the impressive build are a chopped roof and a cabin stripped clean of all the unnecessary things. The steering wheel, the dashboard and a couple of racing seats are about all that remains.
