Five-seat Jeep Commander celebrates premiere in China

There are two Commander SUVs in the Jeep family. One of these is the Grand Commander, which debuted this spring. The other one lacks the “Grand” prefix, is considered to be the base model in its family, and has been officially introduced a few days ago.

It’s important to note that the newcomer isn’t a body-on-frame SUV, but rather a unitized-body crossover. At is core lies the Fiat Compact US Wide architecture primarily meant for front-drive, mid-engine vehicles.

The options list includes leather upholstery, two-zone climate control, a multimedia center, power seats, a panoramic roof, and a start-stop system.

All vehicles will invariably ship with a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine capable of approximately 230 hp (172 kW), working in tandem with a multi-speed automatic transmission.

The Commander SUV family has been designed specifically for the Chinese market. The base model pricing isn’t available yet, but a Grand Commander would be U.S. $41,000 and above.
