Jeep unveils the U.S.-spec 2022 Compass ahead of Chicago show reveal

The Chicago Auto Show only starts tomorrow, but Jeep decided to dispense with the mystery and unveil the refreshed Compass a bit early.

Technically speaking, the compact crossover SUV debuted at the Guangzhou expo in China last November, but this is the first time we are seeing its North American version.

The new Compass has little to show for being different from the current design. The front fascia and the tail end look mildly retouched, there are new LED-based headlamps, reshaped taillights, and little besides.

Power comes from the usual 2.4-liter four-cylinder rated at 180 PS (178 hp / 132 kW) and 233 Nm (172 lb-ft) of torque. You can choose between six-speed and nine-speed automatic, the former driving the front axle and the latter both.

Interior novelty is much more prominent. There is a 10.25-inch digital dash, an advanced infotainment system available with 8.4-inch and 10.1-inch displays, and a multi-function steering wheel. The seats are new, and higher trims offer rear seat heating as well.

Prices are kept secret so far, but we should learn more closer to the sales start scheduled for this fall.
