Jeep Gladiator is in the army now

AM General, the company that gave start to the legendary Hummer series, has designed what it calls the Jeep Gladiator Extreme Military-Grade Truck Concept.

The pickup truck has been essentially converted into a tactical land vehicle usable for military communication purposes, among other things.

Just what makes the army-spec Gladiator stand out against its civilian brethren remains unclear at this point. The manufacturer vaguely references ‘special components’ that make it compliant with the U.S. Ministry of Defense requirements.

The project is also a construction set of sorts, enabling you to customize the cars you order for a variety of purposes. The two show cars correspond to the suggested ‘standard’ and ‘top-of-the-line’ trims. The latter comes equipped with normal doors and a bed-mounted roll cage.

Customers may choose between two six-cylinder engines: gasoline (289 hp / 216 kW) and diesel (264 hp / 197 kW).

AM General promises to launch production as soon as the second half of 2020 if it collects enough pre-orders.
