Jeep Gladiator to go plug-in hybrid soon

Christian Meunier, Global President of Jeep Brand, has confirmed that the Gladiator truck will soon debut in a plug-in hybrid form and the rest of the lineup will be electrified in the coming years, too.

In all likelihood, the company will reuse the electric system of the Wrangler 4xe for the new Gladiator. The setup includes a single electric motor rated at 136 PS (134 hp / 100 kW), which is built into the eight-speed auto transmission, and a 17.3-kWh traction battery. The 2.0-liter gasoline turbo-four engine still has an electric starter-generator assisting it, in addition to the electric motor mentioned above.

The Wrangler 4xe can cover around 40 kilometers (25 miles) on electricity alone, and gains acceleration and torque in hybrid mode.
