Toy-inspired Jeep Gladiator heads to auction

A seriously modified Jeep Gladiator built for the last year’s SEMA show based on a toy car known as the MatchBox RealTruck will cross the auction block soon without a public price estimate.

The complex project was carried out between toy manufacturer Mattel and tuning companies RealTruck Inc and Doetsch Off-Road. The off-roader already had plenty of ground clearance (10 inches / 25.5 cm), but the tuners added another 4 inches (10 cm) along with Fox shock absorbers and 17-inch wheels shod in 37-inch General Grabber tires. They finished the rims in black and orange, just like on the toy car, and fiddled around with the steering mechanism.

Elsewhere, the pickup flaunts heavy-duty bumpers all around, a winch, a roof rack and a bespoke accessory rack in the bed. Gas canisters, auxiliary lighting, a camping tent and other expedition accessories are present, too.

Rounding off the exterior are assorted decals identical to those on the toy car. Rumor has it that MatchBox itself provided the digital blueprints for the project so that the tuners would accurately reproduce the livery proportions.

Things stay stock Gladiator under the hood, which means a 3.6-liter V6 keeps sending 285 PS (281 hp / 210 kW) to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The seller promises to donate all proceedings from the auction sale to charity.
