Even in its bone-stock form, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is a formidable off-roader. Packing 710 hp (530 kW) alongside 868 Nm (640 lb-ft) of torque, it zaps from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in mere 3.7 seconds and proceeds to gain speed until 289 km/h (180 mph). Not bad for an SUV that weighs 2.5 metric tons (5,500+ lbs), right? Perhaps – but not good enough, according to B&B Automobiltechnik.
The German tuner offers two power kits for the Jeep flagship. The Stage I kit boils down to a simple chip tune and yields an additional 30 hp (22.5 kW) with 32 Nm (23 lb-ft). The Stage II is where things get interesting. By reworking the supercharger drive, optimizing the air intake and installing a high-flow, active-valve exhaust system, the firm manages to squeeze 800 hp (596 kW) and 985 Nm (726 lb-ft) out of the model, thus also reducing the sprint time to 3.4 seconds.
B&B Automobiltechnik has similar upgrades in stock for other Jeep Grand Cherokees, including the eco-friendlier 3.0 V6 CRD and the SRT. Further options on offer include a lowering kit (up to 50mm / 2 inches) and in-house designed wheels ranging from 21 to 23 inches in diameter.
