Car spies peek inside the latest Jeep Grand Cherokee

The interior of the latest Jeep Grand Cherokee is no longer a mystery thanks to the photo published earlier today. Judging by it, the luxury SUV is getting an ultra-modern cockpit.

This includes an enormous (12” or larger) touchscreen display mounted on the center console and slightly tilted. FCA already ships certain trims of its Ram 1500 pickup with a 12-inch display, but the Grand Cherokee comes based on a different tech platform, so it’s still something new.

Some hardware buttons remain – look for them on the climate control pad and below the display. A new selector sitting on the center tunnel can be used for AWD and drive mode control. There is also a digital dashboard, as well as leather upholstery with wooden inserts in places.

In all likelihood, the new generation is based on the same platform as the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio, which relies on its electronics to deliver adequate off-road performance. The permanent AWD will likely remain on the list, and some specs will ship with reduction gear included in base.

The premiere date remains unannounced. Rumors say the new Grand Cherokee will make its first official public appearance in November this year and go on sale in 2021.
