Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe spied underway to a wall charger

The Grand Cherokee comes next on the Jeep electrification queue: a plug-in hybrid prototype was recently spotted testing on the streets ahead of its premiere later this year.

Based on the images, the 4xe specification might be limited to two seat rows, as we haven’t seen a three-seater variant testing yet. The charging port resides between the front fender at the driver’s side and the door. Other than that, the SUV looks indistinguishable from its ICE counterpart.

According to unofficial reports, the Grand Cherokee 4xe uses the same powertrain as the Wrangler 4xe. This means a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder paired up with dual electric motors for a total of 380 PS (375 hp / 279 kW) and 673 Nm (496 lb-ft) of torque.

Jeep CEO Christian Meunier claims that the 4xe fares every bit as well in off-road conditions as its fossil-fuel-powered sibling.
