Jeep had to announce a large-scale recall of select Grand Cherokee L models equipped with Smart Lighting Modules (SLM). A recent software update can cause one or both headlights to stop working.
The number of vehicles potentially affected is close to 37,000. Jeep will begin notifying owners via e-mail starting on January 28, 2022, inviting them to visit dealerships for a free software update.
This is the Grand Cherokee’s second headlight-related recall from the beginning of the year. In October, around 7,000 SUVs were called back due to issues with high beam activation.
