Next Jeep Grand Cherokee details revealed

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is a very popular vehicle model in the United States, with over 240,000 copies sold in 2017 alone. Still, the company has to keep consumers interested in its products somehow, and this means releasing new versions and updates. The next-generation Cherokee is currently underway, and we are slowly beginning to learn new things about it.

For one, it has lately been announced that the upcoming Jeep Grand Cherokee will be built on a brand-new architecture, which almost certainly means that the selection of engines it comes with will change, too. Sergio Marchionne, head of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, said that the vehicle would have a modified platform of the Alfa Romeo Giulia sedan at its base, and that the adaptation process is almost complete.

The car will be released in five- and seven-seat versions and will come equipped with a Lvl. 2 autonomous driving system for the first time in the history of the model. It will also get an extended assist package.

Speaking of the autonomous driving feature, it bears mentioning the Jeep plans to bring a Lvl. 3 self-drive tech out on the market in three years. Chances are good that the next mid-generational update of the Jeep Grand Cherokee will take advantage of it. In addition, the manufacturer plans to release all-electric or electrified versions of every vehicle in its current range, including the Grand Cherokee.

Industry-savvy experts say the car may reach the market with a hybrid drivetrain consisting of a 2.0-liter gasoline engine, a 48 kV traction battery and a starter-generator, together exerting up to 300 hp (224 kW).
