Right now, Jeep is busy working on the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, its two largest SUVs on offer. Later on, though, it might switch attention to something rather more compact.
The corresponding statement was made by Marco Pigozzi, Head of Product Marketing at Jeep Europe. He said that the car would be the smallest Jeep had produced so far: perhaps somewhat larger than its main rival the Suzuki Jimny, but smaller than the Nissan Juke and the company’s own Renegade (shown in the gallery here). In defiance of its size, it would still pack formidable off-road capabilities.
No technical details exist this early on, but one could assume that Jeep might want to borrow the platform and tech from its partner, the French-owned PSA Group. The car might also end up with a hybrid rather than traditional drivetrain. The shipments won’t begin until at least 2022 in any case, and Jeep intends to electrify most of its range by that year.
