The hybrid-powered Jeep 4xe models are now available for purchase in Italy and Spain, and the other countries should follow soon. Only the First Edition spec is available right now, so you may want to wait until the summer if you want to save money.
The Compass and the Renegade come based on the same unitized platform and share the same powertrain. A regular 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 180 hp (134 kW) and 270 Nm (201 lb-ft) of torque drives the front axle through a six-speed automatic transmission. A single independent electric motor with 60 hp (45 kW) and 263 Nm (194 lb-ft) drives the rear wheels. The resulting peak output thus amounts to 240 hp (179 kW), enabling the cars to accelerate to 100 km/h (62 mph) in seven seconds before maxing out at 200 km/h (124 mph).
A more affordable variant of the Renegade 4xe will appear in the lineup later, promising 190 hp (142 kW).
The 11.4-kWh traction battery sits inside the center tunnel and behind the rear sofa and converts the stored power into approximately 50 kilometers (30 miles) of all-electric range. The top speed stays capped at 130 km/h (80 mph) when going electric, and you can activate the E-Save mode to force the gasoline engine off. Charging can succeed from a high-power dedicated station or a regular wall socket.
On the outside, both PHEVs show only minimal differences from their gas-powered counterparts. This includes ‘4xe’ badges, blue color accents, and the charging port on the left side. In the cabin, drive mode selection buttons are new, the infotainment system has a new menu system, and the dashboard now displays a power transfer gauge (plus the odometer is digital).
Customers in Italy can obtain their Jeep Renegade 4xe First Edition starting from €40,900, whereas the Compass 4xe First Edition starts from €45,900. Their ICE-powered counterparts are unsurprisingly much cheaper at €23,300 and €28,450, respectively.
