Stellantis Group will stop offering the Jeep Wrangler in Europe by next year, apparently because the standard wheelbase is not long enough to accommodate the 4xe hybrid powertrain.
The North American carmaker intends to turn all Euro-spec Wrangler SUVs into plug-in hybrid vehicles to comply with the emission standards. The “short” off-roader us 4,334 millimeters (14.22 feet) long with only 2,459 mm (8.07 ft.) between the axles.
To put things into perspective, while the Renegade model has a marginally shorter body at 4,236 mm (13.9 ft.), it still benefits from a longer wheelbase of 2,570 mm (8.43 ft.). This enables it to accommodate the part-electric system mentioned above.
Out of 2,602 Wrangler units sold in Europe, only about 30% were hybrids. The SWB version is no longer available in France and some other countries. The United Kingdom poses a major exception: the Wrangler here continues to be available with right-hand drive, the usual door count and wheelbase length, and no hybridization.
