We have seen enough dastardly rescue operations performed by Matt’s Off-Road Recovery, but this one definitely takes the cake. A mud cake, by the look of it.
You know things a bad when no amount of towing from four performance cars can pull the off-roader from its slushy trap. The team called upon a whole salvation marathon to take the tuned Wrangler worth $100,000 out of the dirt, even though its engine was totaled before the operation began. Making things worse was the fact that the nearest paved road was miles away.
Watch the video to appreciate the full scale of the disaster. Aside from Matt’s team of two, two other experienced off-road rescuers participated in the mission and shared their invaluable knowledge to help coax it out of the river. Being waterlogged up to hood level wasn’t the worst part; the worst part was being stuck it slime up to the fenders.
When the ruined car finally came out with a squelch, the recovery team still had miles of rocky mountain passes to drag it through. With power steering gone the same way the engine did, rotating the wheel was a Herculean task. It was nighttime when they finally reached civilization.
And the takeaway? There is none. We live and make mistakes; time alone will tell whether you are smarter than the owner of the poor late Wrangler.
