Jeep will be getting rid of the diesel-powered Wrangler SUV soon, users of JL Wrangler Forums report quoting letters allegedly received by dealerships earlier this week. According to these, the company will produce a special edition called Farout before discontinuing the diesel lineup for good.
The Farout will be allegedly based on the five-door Rubicon spec (see the gallery and the video) with vivid red accents added throughout the cabin and sportier wheels. It is expected to get the ‘3.0LD’ badge for ‘last diesel’.
The new model will be produced in 2023 in a limited, but unspecified quantity, the sources say. Jeep has not commented on the leak yet.
The current-gen Jeep Wrangler can be obtained with a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine also installed on other Stellantis vehicles. A while ago, Ram decided against shipping its 1500 truck with this engine. Both manufacturers intend to phase out all their heavy fuel engines with electric motors in the near future.
In early September, Jeep unveiled a trio of battery-powered concept cars scheduled to reach production within the next few years.
