A YouTuber named Bergfahrer (that’s ‘mountain rider’ in German) has posted what looks like his most extreme Jeep Wrangler off-roading episode yet. In the video, he passes through the infamous Cliffhanger Trail, a rocky, winding road high up in the mountains.
The whole trail is under 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) long, but all drivers attempting it are encouraged to plan to spend 3-4 hours up there due to the sheer impassability of the terrain. Experts also recommend using 35-inch tires, among other things.
The video focuses on the worst obstacles you are likely to encounter during your ascent. Most of these manifest as protruding rock formations – both the ascending and the descending parts of the trail are littered with them. At one point, the SUV actually hits such a rock hard with its skid plate. Luckily, it stays put.
Another highly dangerous area down the trail is a so-called Shelf. Driving on it requires utmost precision, otherwise the car may lose its grip and plummet to the very bottom of the mountains.
