Karma Automotive has introduced an all-electric sedan called the Gyesera, the brand’s second production car since its reboot last year. It looks close to the Tesla Model S in some ways, but is rumored to cost more. Pre-ordering is already available, but the full prices will not be disclosed until at least late 2024, when the deliveries are scheduled to begin.
The car is 5,077 mm (198.3 inches) long, 2,004 mm (78.3 in) wide and 1,330 mm (52 in) tall with 3,160 mm (123.5 in) between the axles. It is thus roughly 100 mm (4 inches) larger than the Model S in all aspects. An aluminum chassis and aluminum/carbon-fiber bodywork make it weigh around 2.4 metric tons (5,300 lbs) – not that much for a high-performance EV.
Even in its starting spec, the Gyesera has two motors driving all four wheels. The U.S. market version produces 598 PS (590 hp / 440 kW) and 940 Nm (693 lb-ft) of torque, which lets it sprint 0-96.6 km/h (0-60 mph) in 4.2 seconds. The top speed is capped near the 220 km/h (136 mph) mark. In this sense, it is one second slower on the uptake than the Tesla, but just about as fast at full throttle.
The only battery option for the time being is a 120-kWh pack rated for over 400 km (250 miles) of range.
Karma CEO Marques McCammon promises that the Gyesera will look and feel more exclusive than the Porsche Taycan and the Cadillac Celestiq. The company plans on making just 400–500 such cars per year for a total of 2,000 units or so. You can already reserve a production slot with a $5,000 deposit.
