Kia’s new SUV lends its name from Hercules’ son

South Korean car manufacturer has announced the name of its upcoming new crossover SUV. The wannabe rival of the Hyundai Creta is now officially called ‘Kia Seltos’.

According to the press service of the company, the name can be traced back to the Greek mythology tradition, which held that the forefather of the Celtic people and the son of the hero Hercules was known as Celtos. This is actually controversial, as Appian, an Ancient Greek historian with Roman heritage, believed that Celtos was the son of the giant cyclops Polyphemus. Anyway, Kia says it swapped the C out for an S ‘to highlight the speed and sportiness’ of the new vehicle.

Chances are you are already familiar with the appearance of the car based on the previously released spy shots. As far as design is concerned, it seems to take strongly after the SP Signature Concept, which the manufacturer claims will eventually become a source of inspiration for all internationally released Kia cars. Highlights include a dual-tone paint, concealed C-pillars, and multi-section LED lights.

The new Kia Seltos SUV will celebrate its market premiere before the end of 2019, but it will not be available in Europe.
