Kia shares pics of its largest electro-SUV to come

The Kia EV9 will debut on Wednesday, November 17 and be the marque’s second production car to come based on the E-GMP architecture.

It will reflect some steps Kia is going to take on the path of becoming carbon-neutral. Among other things, the interior trim will be made of recycled plastic bottles and broken fishing nets recovered from water bodies.

To this end, Kia signed an agreement of intent with Ocean Cleanup, an organization that specializes in finding ways to extract and dispose of the oceanic waste, as well as to prevent further pollution. The Korean automaker also pledges to keep the waters around its home country clean and safe from pollutants. By the early next decade, it expects recycled plastic to constitute 20 percent of all plastic used in cars.

Hyundai will also be revealing a large crossover SUV on the same platform soon, rumored to be called ‘Ioniq 7’. The exterior will be different, but the powertrain will likely be identical to that of the EV9.
