Kia’s EV9 Concept previews the production car set to arrive in a few years’ time with a rather boxy exterior and a transformable interior.
Kia claims that the design team drew their inspiration from crystals when they came up with the sharp bodylines. There is no radiator grille – no reason to put one on an EV – but there is a solid body-matching panel in its place with DRLs at the sides. The lighting on the car comes to life gradually as the driver gets closer to it.
The rear doors swing open against the traffic, but there is a good chance the company will dump this stylistic decision for the production car. A more interesting feature comes in the form of extendable roof rails that can be retracted to improve aerodynamics.
A 27-inch display dominated the interior. The seats swivel, there is a panoramic glass roof and plenty of environmentally clean materials. Kia says the EV9 will offer up to 300 miles (483 kilometers) of driving range on a charge.
