Kia rolls out two new EVs

During its EV Day event, Kia has demonstrated two all-electric concept cars at once – EV3, which has a crossover SUV body, and EV4, which is a sedan. Both are still considered concepts, but will reach production next year. The starting price will not be any lower than $35,000.

Starting with the EV3, Kia touts it as the embodiment of all the main advantages of the full-size EV9 SUV in a much more compact vehicle. Like the EV9, the baby SUV has a boxy overall shape, but its sharpest edges are smoothed. Karim Habib, the Chief Designer of the company, points out that the car sports a dynamic and muscular appearance with asymmetrical wheel arches.

In turn, the EV4 is being called a sedan despite lacking a visible trunk lid in the back. Kia claims it has ‘reinvented’ the four-door body style by combining new shapes with traditional racecar features – whatever that’s supposed to mean.

The interiors look similar with both EVs having two-spoke steering wheels, small displays and no hardware buttons anywhere. The trim makes active use of eco-friendly materials colored with the use of plant-derived paints. The EV3 has flipping tables built into its door panels, while the EV4 has adaptive suspension in the base spec and a real-time info screen that takes the current drive mode and the driver’s mood into consideration when presenting status reports.

The EV3 will be the first to reach the mass market, but the date is unknown.
