The ongoing Beijing Automotive Exhibition (Auto China 2018) has already seen a number of big reveals and bold announcements since its launch. KIA Motors was no exception. All visitors to the event were introduced to two new China-only models: the KIA K5 (Optima) hybrid sedan and the KIA Yi PAO crossover/SUV.
The latter is basically a reworked KIA Stonic designed specifically with the demands of the Chinese customer in mind. It comes equipped with a sleek aerodynamic body kit and a pair of stylish headlights clearly designed to appeal to a younger audience.
KIA Yi PAO will be assembled on the KIA-Dongfeng works in China and should enter retail priced between 100,000 and 150,000 Chinese yuan. Its technical parameters are being kept secret at the moment, but rumor has it that it gets a 1.4-liter gasoline engine good for 100 hp (75 kW).
The KIA K5 sedan gets six-speed automatic transmission, a two-liter gasoline engine manufacturer-rated at 156 hp (116 kW) and an electric engine contributing another 68 hp (50 kW). Its all-electric driving range won’t exceed 40 kilometers, or 25 miles. Production will begin soon.
