Kia is busy developing a brand-new electric car, Electrek reports calling it “a secret.” The only thing we know right now is that it is a production model scheduled for assembly at the Hwaseong Plant 2 in South Korea.
Quoting its own sources, Electrek believes that this alleged “Kia CB” has no relation to the already announced EV2, which you can see in the gallery and the video here. It is also highly unlikely to have anything in common with the EVs already in production, namely the EV3, EV4, EV5, EV6 and EV9. The company is developing it as a completely different car and hopes to start mass production by the end of the decade.
At the same time, Kia has been trying to gain a firmer foothold in Europe. The automaker’s plans include nearly tripling its vehicle production volume in the EU over the next two years. The EV2 will be made in Slovakia, and is expected to hit 100,000 units made by the end of 2026. The same factory is supposed to assemble 80,000 EV4 examples over the next year and a half.
These optimistic numbers seem justified when you consider that Kia sold 71,179 EVs in Europe in January–August. That’s 56% more than in the same period of 2024. The EV3 was Kia’s best-selling electric vehicle in the region with 45,000 units sold.
In the overall ranking by popularity, the EV3 landed on the 7th position. It yielded to the Tesla Model Y and Model 3, as the Volkswagen ID.3, ID.4 and ID.7.
When the Kia EV2 goes on sale in Europe in early 2026, it will be available in a special edition called GT, driving all four wheels with 300 PS (296 hp / 221 kW). Note that the number is not final.
