KIA Motors Corporation plans to bring a reworked version of its Stonic compact crossover onto the Chinese market. China’s Ministry of Industry and IT has recently revealed first photos of the vehicle which will go under the local name of KIA KX1.
The upcoming KIA KX1 is 40 mm (1.56”) shorter, 25 mm (1”) narrower and 17 mm (0.66”) less tall than the Stonic. It also features differently styled lighting and bumpers.
With no official data to go by, we can only assume that it gets a 1.4-liter naturally-aspirated gasoline engine manufacturer-rated at 95 or 100 hp (70 – 75 kW). Transmission could be manual or automatic, but it is pretty much guaranteed to come strictly front-driven.
Production will take place at the jointly owned KIA-Dongfeng works in Yancheng, with first cars reaching their owners towards the end of the year.
That’s about all we know about the new vehicle to date. Oh, and while the exact figures remain unannounced, the KIA said it would be the cheapest SUV in its entire lineup.
