Kia Carens steps into next generation as a crossover SUV for India

The original Kia Carens reached the market over two decades ago, and is now entering its fourth generation already. Sales have only started in India for the time being, but the company promises to bring it to some other markets in 2022.

Unlike its predecessors, the Carens Mk4 is a crossover utility vehicle with Kia Sportage design cues, rather than a minivan. Buyers can choose between six and seven seats in an updated interior with a fully digital dashboard and a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen.

Elsewhere, the car offers immersive ambient lighting, air purification and ventilated front seats. There is an eight-speaker Bose audio system on board, and over-the-air updates are supported, too.

The engine lineup is represented by a 1.5-liter petrol non-turbo rated at 115 PS (113 hp / 85 kW) and 144 Nm (106 lb-ft) of torque, a 1.4-liter turbo capable of 140 PS (137 hp / 103 kW) and 242 Nm (178 lb-ft), and a 1.5-liter diesel good for 115 PS (113 hp / 85 kW) and 250 Nm (183 lb-ft) of torque. Transmission choices include six-speed manual, six-speed automatic, and DCT.
