South Korean car manufacturer Kia has released the first official image of its upcoming crossover/hatchback based on the Kia Ceed chassis. The car should celebrate its live premiere within the next month and will most likely be named “XCeed”.
This isn’t entirely official yet, but rumors say the all-roader version will offer 426 liters of extra trunk space compared to the standard Ceed. It will also get an all-new body which, at 4,390 mm (14.4 ft.) long, will be 80 mm / 3.1” longer than that of the predecessor model.
Whatever turns out to be the case, the Kia XCeed should arrive in showrooms before the end of the second quarter of 2019.
The manufacturer is also planning a minor update for the main Kia Ceed series. Among other things, the car will gain access to new paid options, such as a 12.3” digital dashboard, a 10” infotainment display (the one currently available is only 8” large), an advanced safety package, improved climate control and rear DRLs.
The mid-generational refresh will also bring along new engines. Starting in mid-2019, all Kia Ceed cars sold in Europe will be available with a mild-hybrid powertrain and, eventually, with a plug-in hybrid powertrain as well. As for the XCeed crossover/hatchback, it will get an all-electric variant in 2020.
