South Korean car manufacturer Kia has published the first photos of its new compact crossover utility vehicle based on the Ceed model.
The car utilizes the front-wheel-drive chassis known as the K2, used by the regular Ceed as well as the Cerato, ProCeed, and Ceed Sportwagon. The manufacturer promises to reveal it later this year, but keeps the date and place unannounced so far. Industry experts expect it to show up sometime around the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany.
Based on the teaser image, the new mini-SUV actually represents a fair bit more than the lifted, bottom-padded Ceed hatchback. It sports a coupe-like slanting roof, massive fender flares, different C-pillars, large wheels wrapped in low-profile tires, an aggressive-looking rear bumper, and its own lighting design.
Gregory Guillaume, Design VP of Kia Motors Europe, says that it is “a different car with a different body”, and that its design is unprecedented by any other Ceed vehicle.
No technical details are being revealed this far. Some of us tend to believe that the mini-SUV will ship with the same assortment of engines as its estate/wagon and hatchback counterparts.
