Just as expected, Kia has launched plug-in hybrid variants of its XCeed and Ceed Sportswagon models in Great Britain.
Both cars ship with the exact same powertrain as the Kia Niro PHEV: a 1.6-liter non-turbo engine produces 105 hp (78 kW) and 147 Nm (108 lb-ft) of torque, while a single electric motor contributes 60.5 hp (45 kW) of its own. A six-speed dual-clutch transmission delivers the momentum to the wheels, and the main battery stores 8.9 kilowatt-hours of electric power. The resulting wheel horsepower rating is reported as 141 hp (105 kW) and 265 Nm (195 lb-ft).
The XCeed hatchback can go as far as 58 kilometers (36 miles) before exhausting its battery, and the wagon can do 60 km (37.3 miles). Interestingly, the Niro PHEV ships with a comparatively lackluster rating of just 42 kilometers (26.1 miles). This is likely explained by different measurement methods used. A 3.3-kW charging station can fully replenish the battery in 2 hours 15 minutes.
On the outside, both hybrids sport an aerodynamically shaped radiator grille, a charging port in the front left fender, and a badge reading ‘eco plug-in’ at the rear end. Inside, a battery charge indicator now sits on the dashboard, and the infotainment system can automatically warn you about the nearest charging stations. Integration with Smart Home systems and other hi-tech features are also present.
The XCeed PHEV starts from £30,695 in Great Britain, while the Sportswagon PHEV will set you back £29,995. Customers can choose from two trim versions: 3 PHEV and First Edition. In contrast, the gasoline-powered hatchback and wagon are much cheaper at £20,795 and £19,850, respectively.
First shipments are expected in April 2020.
