Kia to produce its cheapest EV yet in three years

Kia representatives have confirmed that the company is developing a compact electric car destined to become its most affordable EV for the next few years. It will be called EV2 and should reach the market around 2026 priced from roughly $30,000.

The model will be designed specifically for Europe based on the feedback from EV owners there. The production will be localized on the Old Continent – in Slovakia, where Kia has a factory running. Later on, the same car will become available in markets outside of Europe.

The Korean automaker plans to design the EV2 on the same scalable architecture as its other battery cars. It allows for mounting electric motors at either axle or both, but whether the marque’s cheapest EV will ever get an all-wheel drive option is unknown. The production remains penciled in for 2025, but the actual deliveries won’t be made until 2026.

Kia’s next EV on the release scheduled is a crossover SUV named the EV3, which has already premiered in concept form. You will find it in the gallery and the video here.
