During the Kia EV Day earlier this week, the Korean car manufacturer has finally shed some light on the much-anticipated electric SUV called the EV5. It will primarily debut in China and South Korea with multiple motor and battery options to choose from, including AWD variants. Like the company’s other electric cars, it will later get a particularly capable GT version.
The wallet-conscious customers in China will be able to grab a front-wheel-drive model with 218 PS (215 hp / 160 kW) and 64 kilowatt-hours of power storage for 530 km (330 miles) of CLTC-rated range. Paying extra will get you the same motor with a bigger 88-kWh battery and 720 km (447 miles) of range.
The top spec adds a 95-PS (94-hp / 70-kW) motor to the rear axle and caps the range at 650 km (404 miles).
On its domestic market, the Kia EV5 will get the same powertrains as in China, while the batteries will be downgraded to 58 and 81 kWh.
The list of standard and optional features mentions two 12.3-inch displays, a 5-inch control panel for a three-zone HVAC system, seven airbags, and massaged/ventilated seats. The rear seat row can be unfolded to be level with the floor for maximum luggage space. Finally, an optional four-liter container for food and drinks will be offered that will be able to maintain any temperature needed, heating or cooling the contents as necessary.
In China, the EV5 will trade the individual rear seats for a three-seat bench in the base spec.
