Kia was confident enough to put its battery-powered SUV named EV6 in a drag race against a Ferrari California, a Lamborghini Urus, a McLaren 570S, a Mercedes-AMG GT, and a Porsche 911.
The top GT spec of the EV6 packs 585 PS (577 hp / 430 kW), needs 3.5 seconds to reach 100 km/h (62 mph), and hits its speed limit at 260 km/h (161 mph).
The Porsche 911 (991) Targa 4 concludes its sprint in 4.5 seconds thanks to its 370 PS (365 hp / 272 kW). The AMG GT has an advantage at 462 PS (456 hp / 340 kW) and launches in four seconds flat. The California and the Urus both sprint in 3.6 seconds despite the former having 560 PS (552 hp / 412 kW) and the latter 650 PS (641 hp / 478 kW). Finally, the 570S uses its titular 570 metric horsepower (562 hp / 419 kW) in the most efficient fashion, hitting 100 km/h (62 mph) in mere 3.2 seconds.
The EV6 has managed to outpace all contenders but one. It has led for nearly the entire quarter of a mile, but yielded to the 570S by a few feet near the finish line. It remains unclear how the others performed.
The Kia EV6 debuted on March 30 and is scheduled to hit the market in the second half of the year in versions ranging from 170 to 585 PS (168 – 577 hp; 125 – 430 kW). Customers will be able to choose from batteries sized between 58 and 77.4 kilowatt-hours.
