Kia EV6 fares better at moose test than Porsche Taycan

The dedicated Spanish team of km.77 has conducted another one of its moose tests, this time around with a battery-powered Kia EV6. They were pleasantly surprised with the results.

The car managed a flawless run at 78 km/h (48.5 mph), which is slightly above the accepted standard of 77 km/h and better than many modern performance cars can do, both on fossil fuel and electric power. The Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo concluded the test at 1 km/h (0.6 mph) below the EV6.

The crew was driving a single-motor spec with 229 PS (226 hp / 168 kW) at the output end. The first run was performed at 80 km/h (49.7 mph) with regenerative braking disabled. The crossover SUV failed to return to its lane and hit three traffic cones as it did so. Despite that, the testers praised accurate steering and the sense of being in control while driving the EV6.

After several attempts at varying speeds with regenerative braking in both states, the team had to conclude that 78 km/h was the best the car could do in the moose test. Having said that, understeer only begins to be an issue at 81 km/h (50.3 mph) and above. The test pilot said he did not feel electronic aids kicking in, but never lost control completely even at the highest speeds.

The main rival of the Kia EV6 – the Volkswagen ID.4 – barely managed to pass the test at 73 km/h (45.4 mph). Compared to ICE cars, the Korean crossover did better than the BMW M235i with its 68 km/h (42.3 mph) and the Mercedes-AMG A45 with 75 km/h (46.6 mph).
