The long-anticipated Kia EV9 strikes an imposing figure in its first teaser vid focusing on its front end, rear end and side view. Rumor has it the sales will begin later this spring, but there is still no official launch date, so let’s have a closer look at the preview.
The short video reveals novel headlights consisting not just of the Matrix LED headlamps and angular DRLs, but also lots of tiny LEDs framing the faux grille. These could be used to form pixel art images or animated pictures, for instance.
Then there are the taillights, styled as narrow diode stripes grouped into unusual patterns, and flush door handles.
Overall, the production car seems to follow in the tire tracks of its concept version, except for no more “air intakes” in the “hood” and more dynamic outlines. The latter was achieved thanks to the roof gently slanting towards the triangular d-pillars.
All the specifications floating around the Internet right now are rumors. It is assumed that the Kia EV9 will arrive in the United States with two powertrains rated at 240 and 400 U.S. horsepower. It will also allegedly cover 470 km (292 miles) on a charge. The fate of the 600-hp edition from the earlier rumors remains in the air.
From the technical perspective, the model runs on a stretched version of the E-GMP platform underlying the EV6.
