The full-size Kia EV9 SUV premiered a fortnight ago, but the technical details were omitted from the presentation.
As it turns out, the base specification will ship with a single electric motor driving the rear axle with 218 PS (215 hp / 160 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque. It will also make do with a medium-sized 76.1-kWh traction battery.
A middle-ground spec gets the same RWD powertrain, but benefits from a larger battery rated at 99.8 kilowatt-hours. This enables it to have 541 km (336 miles) of WLTP-rated range. On the downside, range-focused power optimizations cap the output of this version at 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW).
Those interested in the flagship version will get two motors hitting four wheels with 385 PS (380 hp / 283 kW) and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) of torque. A paid option called Boost Mode lets you briefly push another 100 Newton-meters (74 pound-feet) of torque to the wheels.
Charging the battery for 15 minutes can replenish up to 240 km (150 miles) of driving range. The charging system on board of the EV9 is bidirectional, meaning you can use it to power up external appliances and equipment.
