CarExpert, WhichCar and CarSales are all reporting that various Kia dealerships in Australia were notified of a new pickup truck coming to the manufacturer’s lineup in 2025.
Kia allegedly compares the model with the Ford Ranger and the Toyota Hilux. The news checks out when you remember that some time ago, the Korean automaker revealed that it had two trucks underway to production before 2027. One of those was announced with a “special platform” and the other one called “a strategic product for developing markets”. The latter is probably the truck the dealers Down Under heard about.
All three websites quoted above claim the model will be based on the ladder-frame Kia Mohave platform (found in the gallery here) and ship with a diesel engine as standard. There are also reports that the development started as early as 2020.
Kia has already responded to these rumors with a message that it was indeed working on a pickup “that will be highly capable and fit for purpose.” No further details were provided.
