Kia is getting ready to reveal the next-gen Niro with a variety of powertrains, including all-electric. The E-Niro has just shown up before a spy photographer.
According to preliminary information, the next-gen Niro will be based on the same platform as its predecessor, so any major powertrain changes are unlikely. In theory, the company could try to expand its battery range.
The current-gen E-Niro (see video) relies on a single electric motor rated at 202 PS (200 hp / 150 kW) and 394 Nm (291 lb-ft) of torque. A 64-kWh battery grants it around 384 kilometers (238.6 miles) of range. There are also two hybrid on offer: a MHEV and a PHEV.
Despite the cladding, it is obvious that the new E-Niro no longer has the marque’s typical ‘tiger nose’ grille. This would not be surprising, given that electric powertrains do not require nearly as much ventilation as ICE ones. Furthermore, as we know from earlier, the model will draw design inspiration from the Kia Habaniro Concept.
An official premiere is expected very soon.
