Kia unveils the 2020 K5/Optima

Following a series of teasers and several leaked spy photo sets, Kia has finally showed us what its K5 sedan/saloon – also known as Optima outside of South Korea – looks like.

As expected, the car sports a slanted roof, a short-ish trunk, a narrow front grille, and linked taillights.

At 4,905 millimeters (16.1 ft.) long with 2,850 mm (9.35 ft.) of wheelbase, it is 50 mm (2 inches) longer than its predecessor. The width stays the same at 1,860 mm (6.1 ft.), and the height goes down 20 mm (0.8”) to 1,445 mm (4.74 ft.). Available wheel sizes range from 16 to 19 inches.

No official interior photos exist, but sketches from earlier evidence substantial changes. The instrument panel is now digital, the gear selector knob has been redesigned, many of the hardware buttons are gone, and a touch-sensitive display now provides access to most in-car functions.

Kia will launch the K5 on the domestic market before the end of the year, while the other countries will get their Optima in mid-2020.
