Kia Rio gets a mild facelift in the States

Kia has refreshed its U.S.-spec Rio, landing it with the same basic improvements as the international Rio YB that debuted a few months ago (see video).

The front fascia now boasts a more aggressive appearance, and the rear bumper flaunts fake air vents along with a chrome strip. Inside, the infotainment system supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and goes up in size from 7 to 8 inches. The Drive wise assist package now incorporates collision prevention, lane control and pedestrian-aware braking.

A $1,800 upgrade kit for the sedan includes new 15-inch wheels, climate control, a Sirius satellite radio, LED headlights, a better dash display, and an engine launch button.

Compared to its European cousin, the North American five-door hatchback is identical in all respects except for the missing roof fin and the orange headlight accents.

Things stay stock under the hood. A 1.6-liter naturally aspirated engine rated at 122 PS (120 hp / 90 kW) and 152 Nm (112 lb-ft) of torque comes bundles with a CVT and front wheel drive.

Prices start at U.S. $16,050 for the sedan version and $16,990 for the hatchback, marking a $200 premium over the pre-facelift version.
