Kia has already begun assembling a pilot batch of the fifth-gen Sportage SUV, and will be unveiling it on June 8. In the meantime, here are some sketchy teasers.
The company says the next-gen Sportage will be larger and, for the first time since 2010, get a drastically different exterior styling. While the third and the fourth generations have nearly identical bodies, the new one will sports new proportions and windowlets in the C-pillars. It will also feature originally designed lights and mirrors on thin supports.
A single glass panel inside will cover the 12.3-inch digital dashboard and the infotainment display.
Technical specifications remain to be revealed, but it would make sense for the new Sportage to share its mechanical underpinnings with its sibling, the Hyundai Tucson. Naturally aspirated and turbocharged gasoline engines, turbo diesels and hybrid powertrains will all be on offer, although the availability will be restricted on a per-market basis.
Sales in South Korea will start in July.
