Kia is on track to getting rid of its Stinger fastback, leaving only the all-electric EV6 GT CUV as a replacement of sorts. However, according to inside sources quoted by Autoevolution, the model will be making a comeback in a few years as a high-end electric saloon based on a new platform and rated for 800+ km (500 miles) of range.
The model will allegedly be based on a platform so far referred to as ‘eM’, which is still in development at the time. The flagship spec will utilize twin e-motors rated at 272 PS (268 hp / 200 kW) at the front axle and 340 PS (335 hp / 250 kW) at the rear. Their combined output will thus amount to 612 PS (603 hp / 450 kW).
The purported Stinger EV will also benefit from a particularly large battery unit storing 113.2 kWh of power – more than the Mercedes-Benz EQS.
Lower-end versions will also be available, the source claims. The base spec will allegedly make with a single rear-axle motor rated at 218 PS (215 hp / 160 kW). A middle-ground spec is also planned for release with two motors and a combined 435 PS (429 hp / 320 kW). Autoevolution points out that no Kia EV currently in production has a 200kW or a 250kW electric motor, nor is there a known traction battery model rated at 113.2 kWh.
