The police from Queensland, Australia, has decided to refresh its car fleet and make a switch from the Ford Falcon and the Holden Commodore to the all-wheel-driven Kia Stinger fastback.
A total of 50 new vehicles should enter the state service before the end of 2018. Other states are also considering a similar move.
The Kia Stinger police car is based on the top-spec model armed with a turbocharged 3.3-liter V6 engine with automatic transmission. The engine can produce up to 370 hp / 276 kW and 510 Nm (376 lb·ft) of torque. The vehicle accelerates 0-100 km/h (0-60 mph) in less than five seconds and tops out at 270 km/h (168 mph).
Kia is by far not the only manufacturer to offer police modifications of their cars. For example, Ford has recently unveiled a hybrid-powered Police Interceptor Utility Vehicle. which is based on the Ford Explorer SUV and is due from spring 2019.
