Kia has unveiled the facelifted Telluride SUV in New York, bringing plenty of innovation into its largest vehicle on the North American market.
A cursory glance at the exterior reveals new radiator grille, bumpers, wheels and side sill overlays. The headlights and taillights retain their shapes, but with new LED patterns.
The dash panel is also new and designed to accommodate Digital Cockpit features. A single display formed by a pair of 12.3-inch screens now acts as the dashboard and the infotainment all at once. Air vents have been redesigned, while HVAC and center tunnel stay untouched.
The infotainment system now supports OTA updates, simultaneous Internet sharing with up to five devices, and improved navigation software capable of taking real-time traffic situation into account.
The engine stays the same, which in the U.S. specification means a 3.8-liter V6 rated at 295 PS (291 hp / 217 kW) and 355 Nm (262 lb-ft) of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission sends the power to two wheels in the base spec and all four in new off-road versions. You can still get AWD in the base spec if you pay a premium.
The off-road trims mentioned above are called X-Line and and X-Pro. The former gets 10 mm (0.4”) of extra clearance, new bumpers with improved approach and departure angles, roof rails, and special 20-inch wheels. Select electronic aids, like torque control, give access to a greater number of configurable parameters. The X-Pro makes use of smaller 18-inch wheels wrapped in serious all-terrain tires and has a 110V power socket inside.
New options include a redesigned power tailgate mechanism, some driving assists and a digital key fob app for your phone and/or smart watch. Smart cruise control, speed limit sign recognition and collision prevention at the crossroads are all provided with the standard package.
Pricing remains to be revealed. A Kia factory in the state of Georgia, USA will handle the production.
