Koenigsegg unveils an INSANE new hypercar

Hypercar builder Koenigsegg has come out with a new concept car named “Jesko”, although employees seem to prefer the humble term “megacar”. The vehicle bears the proud name of the company’s founder and spiritual leader Jesko von Koenigsegg, who is still alive and well.

The new Koenigsegg Jesko will emerge in a series of 125 units and replace the Regera and Agera RS in their market segment.

From the purely technical point of view, the sports coupe has evolved out of the Agera RS, but the changes are so groundbreaking, you will hardly notice any similarities anymore.

First and foremost, the car has gained an electric supercharger add-on for its 5.0 twin-turbo V8, as well as a 20-liter air receiver made of carbon fiber. According to the manufacturer, this has all but eliminated the turbo lag. Fueled by RON 95 gasoline, the Koenigsegg Jesko churns out 1,280 horsepower (954 kilowatts); feed it top-grade E85 fuel instead, and it ascends to stellar 1,600 hp (1,193 kW) and 1,500 Nm (1,106 lbft) of torque.

Of course, the new transmission warrants a separate mention as well. The two-door vehicle packs a unique, purpose-built Light Speed Transmission box with nine selectable speeds and six (!) clutches. The manufacturer claims that switching gears occurs instantaneously, and the car slides into the optimal gear automatically whenever you just push the paddle shifter all the way down and hold.

Thanks to its active aerodynamic kit, the megacar experiences around 800 kg (1,765 lbs) of downforce when going at 250 km/h (124 mph). This number rises to 1,000 kg (2,200 lbs) at 275 km/h (171 mph) and maxes out at around 1,400 kg (3,100 lbs) when the car reaches its speed ceiling. The latter isn’t being revealed just yet, but rumors say an early prototype with a simpler aero kit on could do ca. 480 km/h (300 mph).

Compared to the Agera series, the Jesko is 40 millimeters (1.6”) longer and 22 mm (0.8”) taller, which the company believes should translate into more driver and passenger comfort. The all-carbon monocoque houses a climate control unit, a multimedia system with smartphone support, a steering wheel with sensor-based controls on it, a wireless charger, and more.

The Koenigsegg Jesko will go on sale in 2021 or later priced starting from U.S. $3,000,000 plus taxes.
