Koenigsegg has unveiled its next big car, the CC850. The coupe is technically similar to Jesko and comes equipped with a mind-blowing automatic gearbox that supports manual shifts with a lever and a clutch pedal.
The model is meant to celebrate the launch of Koenigsegg’s very first production car 20 years ago, as well as the 50th birthday of its founder, Christian von Koenigsegg. This may be why the production run will be capped at just 50 units.
Like the Jesko, the CC850 comes powered by the company’s proprietary 5.0-liter turbocharged V8. The newcomer dials its power down to a more manageable 1,185 PS (1,169 hp / 872 kW), but pour E85 in and you will get 1,385 PS (1,366 hp / 1,019 kW). Exact launch times and top acceleration capabilities remain to be measured.
As for the sophisticated transmission system mentioned above, the lever you can use to switch gear is not mechanical, but rather control-by-wire. Koenigsegg insists that drivers will get the authentic ‘stick shift’ feeling thanks to numerous adjustments and carefully calibrated feedback.
