Koenigsegg Jesko sets an unexpected record

Koenigsegg has shared some on-board footage from its Jesko hypercar driven by Niklas Lilja on the Gotland Ring in Sweden. The stated goal was to test a new option package called Attack, but the driver has inadvertently set a new lap record in the process.

The Gotland Ring is a lesser-known, 7.3-kilometer (4.5-mile) long racetrack situated on Gotland Island, Sweden. Like the formidable Nürburgring a.k.a. North Loop, it is full of unexpected sharp curves and altitude variations.

Piloting the Jesko Attack, Lilja managed to complete the lap in 2 minutes 56.97 seconds. In doing so, he dethroned the previous champion of the track – the hardcore Porsche 911 GT3 RS tuned by Manthey Racing – with a seven-second advantage. Speaking to the media, he said the result could be even better because he had only used 90% of the car’s potential. Not only that, but the tank had normal gasoline in it instead of E85, which could raise the engine output to over 1,600 PS (1,578 hp / 1,177 kW).

The Koenigsegg Jesko Attack features a special racetrack-focused aero kit that produces more downforce than the standard Jesko body kit.
